New iPhone 4s owner..few questions?

i have ipad2 use internet stuff. getting 4s in next day or so. want iphone have email,phone contacts,pictures, etc... want totally separate pad. don't want sync 2 @ all. want them separate. best option far itunes go backing up? little confused?

 

when activate phone, set new, rather using backup ipad. can turn off autosyncing of apps in itunes , under store in settings of phone.
