iPhone 4, iOS 5.1 - doesn't recognize that music is playing

the past week or phone hasn't recognized when music playing. don't know if coincides upgrading ios 5.1, around same time. album artwork doesn't show on lock screen, , when double tap home button shows play button no infor song if music app wasn't open. hitting buttons play or skip nothing.

issue 5.1? how fix it?

sometimes happens me on 4s running 5.01. have found work go main screen, double tap home button, , close music application.

upon reopening should acquire functionality again.
