27" LED DIsplay with HP EliteBook Laptop

ok, have hp elitebook 8440p laptop, use work.. want connect apple 27" led display. 8440p comes displayport, thought piece of cake this dp-to-minidp adapter cable.

unfortunately no such luck.. led display won't light up, no matter had tried.

there trick missing here? has been able use 27" led display displayport-equipped windows pc?
