Publisher Touts 20-Point Boost in Student Performance with Textbooks for iPad

apple announcing ibooks textbooks initiative yesterday, company has been pushing view ipad can revolutionize education keeping students engaged unprecedented levels of interactivity.

in attempt assess effect of ipad textbooks on student performance, houghton mifflin harcourt (hmh) performed year-long pilot program using ipad version of company's algebra 1 textbook middle school students. study, conducted @ amelia earhart middle school in riverside, california, saw 78% students taking course using ipad textbook rank "proficient" or "advanced" in subject, compared 58% of students using traditional print textbook.
educators noted increased motivation on part of students using ipad app, personal level of interactivity, factors contributing student success. students found ipad experience more natural , put them more in charge of own learning, factors increased student interest , engagement.

1 important consideration ipad textbook offered hmh not official ibooks textbook introduced apple yesterday. publisher's fuse program has offered ipad versions of algebra 1, algebra 2, , geometry textbooks apps in app store since last year. apps offered free sample downloads full textbooks available via in-app purchase @ $59.99 each, considerably higher apple's maximum price of $14.99 titles in ibooks textbooks program.

hmh 1 of apple's 3 main partner publishers not release ibooks textbooks @ yesterday's event, pearson , mcgraw-hill each releasing small handful of titles kick off program. seems hmh may working transition fuse program ibooks textbooks, accounting later launch of titles.

technology (and textbooks these) have definetly helped me stay focused , better student while in high school. me thick old textbook on desk, list of chapters or pages read marked on chalkboard, seemed such daunting task.

become more interactive , interesting, , of course more visually stimulating mind. have loved have these! :)
