13" MBP+iPad vs. iMac+MBA

hi there,

first, want have read through similar thread posted recently, i'm wondering if has further advice situation.

i'm planning change windows mac. i'm using 3+-yr old dell xps m1330 (13" screen, 2.4 ghz core2duo, 4 gb ram, 250 gb hard drive, nvidia 8400m graphics card) external 22" monitor, wireless keyboard/mouse, , speakers @ home. however, laptop has been depot repairs 3 times under warranty overheating (automatic shutdown due overheating gpu temperatures around 100c , core temperatures around 90c), , replaced motherboard, fan, , heat sink. well, out of warranty , starting same thing, more graphic intensive programs.

i'm professional, , graduate student, need portable device occassional ms office work, giving powerpoint presentations, , recreational travel. i'm hobby photographer slr, , photo editing.

wanting replace current notebook 13" mbp, , ipad greater portability (for recreational use , possibly powerpoint presentations). however, after looking @ mac systems, i've thought getting imac , mba set-up instead. thoughts on set-up better? also, since needing replacement system soon, if suggest imac, should wait new imac released (from other posts, i've seen these may expected in april/may), or current model sufficient? (i.e. new processors add noticeable performance purposes?)

ps. have iphone4 + ipod nano

 

go imac + mba combo. way have nice screen on imac edit photos with, , still have portability , power of laptop mba.
