iPhone 3G won't activate after restore?

i got iphone japan , decided open line , jailbreak local jailbreaker. before done that, updated ios 4 ios 5. downgraded iphone ver 4. decided restore , update iphone because won't let me download apps installous. ( wanted unjailbreak iphone) during restore, asked me activate. don't have original sim. using sim. , says there's no sim card installed in iphone your'e attempting activate. why so? because during had phone jailbreaked, can send messages through iphone. please help
