is possible buy mac mini 750gb 7200rpm drive $750 , use "cost effective" 750gb thunderbolt external hard drive in target mode?

 

yes, consume more power simple external hdd , 2.5" hdd, albeit 7200 rpm, speed gain not compared firewire 800.
firewire 800 offers 75 mb/s read , write speeds, 2.5" hdd offer 100 mb/s. while 25 mb/s faster, needed?

wouldn't cheaper sonnet expresscard adapter thunderbolt , esata expresscard , external hdd enclosure/dock esata port , hdd itself?
