MacBook Pro black rubber screen edge

i have older late 2008 macbook pro (unibody). black rubber edge around screen has started turn grayish/white in lower corners. age, or can cleaned? i've tried take iklear spray on microfiber cloth clean it. seemed little, not much.

else have happening?

 

it's normal dirt buildup.
