i'm looking upgrade hard drive in mid-2009 15" unibody macbook pro. i'm graphic designer programs use (in addition standard web/video player/itunes/etc. use) adobe indesign, photoshop, aperture, iphoto, etc.

of 2 drives best? biggest priority compatibility mac , long-term reliability. i'd interested in hearing reviews people have tried both.

on separate note, i'm running snow leopard , upgrade lion. should upgrade os first , replace hard drive, or vice versa?

the seagate hybrid - meaning has (in case of 750 version) 8gb of "smart" ssd ram. ssd remembers files open (like files accessed when boot up) , improves performance. installed 500gb version of seagate hybrid drive , couldn't happier! boot times (from power on) went somewhere in 40-second range down 15-20 seconds.

(added): note seagate hybrid (like having small 8gb ssd drive regular mechanical drive). wd drive drive. also, note basic cache size double on teh seagate drive (32mb versus 16mb), without on-board ssd, seagate choice. price bit more, performance gains imho more worth it.

way, looks llike decent price on 750gb version. own sells today $229.
