force lower (native) resolution

is possible force smaller resolution not have stretch?

in there words "boxed" image black border displaying real selected resolution.

lets skip why questions, , please post if can help. have reasons testing. thanks.

 

i used 2 of macs lower resolution week, , had no stretching or black borders, bigger pixels.
lowered resolution 1680 x 1050 1280 x 800 on 20" imac , on 17" mbp 1920 x 1200 1440 x 900.
nothing stretched , no black borders visible, lower resolutions spanned entire screen.
did use 10.6 though, guess have 10.7 lion?

if have 11" mba, choose resolution, using 16:9 ratio, 13" mba should choose 16:10 aspect ratio resolution.
