iOS 5-has the unlock been forgotten or abandoned

i have verizon ip 4 on ios 5.0.1 , hoping switch carriers in fall when contract up.. been vz since 1998 minimum 2gb data plan @ $30 out of line. i'm tired of overpaying , don't have far superior coverage anymore used boast when talking carriers.

so, unlock rumors new ios? or more simple that?

the verizon iphone 4 never unlocked. compatible verizon. 4s can unlocked verizon.
