Finding RAM usage, and adding more?

girlfriend's macbook feels sluggish @ times lot of things open, though it's same spec friends nippy mbp.

there easy way check memory usage task manager in windows?

that ram work macs 2008 , earlier.

have @ activity monitor (applications / utilities /) , select all processes , sort cpu see culprit may be.
check "system memory" tab see "page ins:", "page outs:" , "swap used:" are.
