8gb ram not working in mid2010 MPB- help

ok guys, first post here know... 1 of guys can me out.

have mid 2010 unibody mbp came stock 4gb of ram , wanted update it. went best buy , purchased 8gb of pny brand ram. came office , installed. happened:

-(with both 4gb cards in) froze @ apple spinwheel freezing.

-(with 1 2gb card , 1 4gb card) works fine. reads has 6gb of ram.

-(switch 4gb card , 2gb card) again works fine, reads 6gb of ram.

why cards work separate original card, not together? have happen before? should do? let me know info out, please , thank you!

 

i'm not memory expert, reading on type of memory supposed used. says should use ddr3 rated @ 1066 mhz. bought? perhaps yours can take 6gb of ram?
