i've been researching various ports , connections , have come across rather anti-climactic usb 3.0: doesn't seem offer more real-life bandwidth firewire 800. maybe 30-40% more, absolute best case scenario, benchmarks i've seen.
ssd mac mini + gpu + i7, late year, first personal mac , want last because don't want have spend kind of money again quite time. want external hd connected either firewire 800 or better, because i'd using second hd , hate bandwidth of usb 2.0/internet storage.
i'm trying figure out (hopefully advice), worth waiting usb 3.0 on mac, technically better firewire 800, or you, 1 has experience both ports, recommend skipping usb 3.0 priority expansion port?
understand:
thunderbolt: best of best, price high , bandwidth overkill, making useful raid configurations.
esata 1.0, 2.0, 3.0: great doesn't exist on mac mini. maybe pay $400-$500 thunderbolt-esata-esata external drive package on other hand money makes more sense go lacie thunderbolt little bigdisk. i'll consider esata not-viable option.
usb 3.0: not exist on macs once new ivy bridge comes out. possibly faster when intel chipset natively supports it, maybe kidding myself.
firewire 800: not slower usb 3.0, deprecated in next couple years usb 3.0 because of lack of development on 1600 & 3200 (for obvious thunderbolt superior alternative).
way see it: thunderbolt out of price range, esata not reasonable fit, while usb 3.0 offers barely more firewire 800 though might have promise more bitflow. end firewire 800 drive (i g technology g drive hitachi) or usb 3.0 drive (but haven't found 1 looks close good).
pro-sumer, might recommend me?
i stream media off usb 2.0 , never exprience lag. think depends on file size, bit rate , network speed before upgraded gigabit home network mix 10/100 , 1000 , never suffered. moms apple tvs stream wireless n apple tv hooks switch , apple tv has 10/100 ethernet port light on switch tells me
