dd usb to partition


i'm in process of installing ubuntu onto 1 of drives, i've been given instruction "dd whole usb stick partition", usb stick containing bootable copy of ubuntu

have partition ready. how go this? presumably terminal? thanks.

hello! new forum! i'll try out!

you've decided take livecd route eh? not worry did last week on macbook air 3,1! start, instructions on ubuntu rubbish! here's full set of instructions have devised.

put in code make easier read , others! (at least hope it's easier follow)
code:
 +download ubuntu iso +use unetbootin install files root drive (usb) +create 3 new partitions           -mac disk utility:                -2gb - ubuntu live cd files                -4gb - /home , linux swap                -20gb - actual ubuntu [size="1"](size depends on want can changed later on)[/size] +move iso files (copy) partition (2gb)           -dd if=/dev/disk1s0 of=/dev/disk0s3                -[b][size="1"]note: /dev/disk1s0 usb. in terminal type: "diskutil list" see usb name is. time make sure path 2gb partition correct[/size][/b]  +install refit           -on restart refit should load           -go "set partitions" (or similar that)                -answer yes sync , activate fat partition +launch ubuntu (from partition)           -if experiencing graphical errors , no internet go terminal , type # sudo -s , # gedit /etc/default/grub                -add nomodeset grub_cmdline_linux="" nomodeset goes inside "" +if have macbook air or experience errors installing ubuntu later on around 15% follow next step: +dismount cdrom           -terminal: sudo gedit /etc/mtab                -delete line specifying cdrom mount directory                     -ie /dev/sda3/cdrom vfat                -save +++now ready install!  +go through setup usual until when asks partition hdd. choose advanced!!!           -at partitioning list:                -delete 4gb partition free space                     -with newly added 4gb free space click "add"                          -choose these options:                               -size: 3gb                               -format: ext4                               -type: /home                               -done                     -click "add" on 1gb free space created                          -choose these options:                               -size: 1gb                               -format: swap (something-swap or vice-versa, you'll see it)                     -with 20gb selected choose change                          -format: ext4                          -type: "/" (this root) +++cross fingers , install!
