2008 Macbook Pro Logic board bust. Need some advice :)

hey guys,
2008 17in macbook pro started flicker , video started scrammble on place , died.
booked appointment apple genius bar, ran tests , said logic board needs replacing & cost me £400. ouch.
thought known macbook pro nvidia graphics card issue apple repairing free of cost, apprantly not test says

question people out there is, how pay less & laptop , running. dont want spend money on 3 , half year old laptop, , 90days warranty on repairs apple.

guys do?
company less or diy buying stuff ebay or elaewhere.

i more try , apple fix logic board free. seems suspicious video symptoms not related defective gpu. have read more few posts "genius" bar folks , apple store diagnosis incorrect.

contact apple directly , have them elevate problem hgiher level if don't want first person.
