Do I have to use Time Machine to duplicate my HDD?

hi all, i'd make copy of os x snow leopard hdd on macbook pro, if ever god forbid lose it, restore whole os, files, apps on new desktop.

question is, i'd use carbon copy cloner, want or need time machine migrate whole os + files + settings new computer?

carboncopycloner want, no need time machine, restoring take longer restoring clone.
