Should I update my iPhone 4 (4.1 to 5.0.1) or stay outdated? NEED HELP, PLEASE!!!!!!?

ok, know may long bear me, need guys!!!! :(

ok, few years ago, bought iphone 4 (i in zimbabwe, in us) factory unlocked can tell. reason why "think" it's unlocked because
1. did not have cydia installed when got it, stock native apps only
2. running on 02.10.04 baseband (that cannot cydia unlocked), manage used several network providers , sim cards worked , still do, no problems. (using t-mobile now)
3. model number mc603b, , according research, factory unlocked model.
unless im mistaken???????

here go. ios 5.0.1 out , running :apple: ios 4.1 (jailbroken), bakward, loads of tweaks , apps cant run on outdated ios , want :apple: ios 5. have heard people on internet complain after ios5 upgrade, phones locked-up , can't dowgrade or activate after update, if happens im stuck forever, , dont know do!!!!

here questions:
1. phone factory unlocked, based on listed above? or there other way of checking???
2. if update, risk locking-up phone????
***3. should update "while preserving baseband" , still manage activate it, or leave update baseband????? please help. read questions , answer on think.

alot guys

1) if not jailbroken , not have cydia , ultrasn0w installed , on bb 02.10.04 should unlocked. can hook tinyumbrella , see if give same bb

2) updating unlocked phone not lock it

3) if unlocked no need preserve bb, if still unsure can update while preserving bb, can unlock gevey sim imposer
