2011 MBP 13" displayport problem

at work bought 2 samsung s27a950d screens. allow both displayport, hdmi , dvi connection. bought mini-dp -> dp cables. when conneting these our 13" macbook pros (2.3 ghz), there no picture on display. neither screen, neither cable, neither computer. laptop screen blue blink once when connecting cable (so something happens), no picture on samsung , no screen detected in display settings.

if connect screen via dvi , dvi -> mini-dp adapter, works perfectly. this, however, bit bulky, prefer smaller dp cable instead. @ point gave , went dvi.

strangely, however, later noticed when connected older 15" mbp (2009, 2010?) worked dp cable. the...?

going on here? problem thunderbolt vs displayport? problem sandy bridge graphics? getting on nerves.

or insight appreciated.

 

i have same monitor , same issue thunderbolt macbook air. op stated, older dp macbook air works fine.

thoughts?
