Reinvigorate early 2008 MBA or buy another?

hey all,

i've got few questions you. have 2008 macbook air (the original) 60gb hard disk , older battery.

hard disk usage 20gb out of 60, hear intermittent ticks coming hard disk concerns me. battery older. istat pro reports battery health 88% , os x reports condition "normal". however, battery doesn't last more hour , half full charge. istat reports 251 cycles out of 300 battery guaranteed for.

have 2 options:
  • replace battery , purchase ssd
  • purchase new macbook air

considering purchasing following ssd replacement kit macsales.com:
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/owc/smbazif60/

, following battery replacement (or apple replace it, think it's $120 battery replacement):
http://www.ifixit.com/macbook-parts/macbook-air-original-late-2008-battery/if188-004

in looks spend $300 replacement parts.

other background affect decision:
not main machine; have 2011 macbook pro used main machine docking it.

recommend?

it's under 300 cycles battery supposed last for, apple might give new battery if ask nicely. make decision between $1400 computer, , $150 ssd.

how model handle on it? still work enough?
