Keeping email "new" on home computer after checking on iPhone

hi there -

have things set can check email @ home on laptop , on iphone.

there setting somewhere allow me keep emails on laptop "new" though i've checked them on iphone?

do need messages (so remember @ them later), or universally emails?

on individual basis, mark particular ones "unread".

on general basis, not unless use pop3 instead of imap email interface on home computer. that's not ideal though.
