Dead iMac used as external monitor?

a few days ago dad tells me logic board dead , it's $1500 repair. yesterday bought new imac , i'm thinking there has way use dead machine external monitor macbook. dead imac mid-2010 27" i5 , macbook late 2008.

please tell me there way make work! soo dumb repair more replacement cost. (and yes, no applecare, no credit card warranty, nothing. it's dead.)
