hi, guys,
i'm writing vintage , reliable imac, 13" macbook pro mid-2010 called quits today.
had weird audio , video issues on last week, today came crawl, each program crashed 1 one, , had turn off.
when tried reboot, started apple logo first few times never got past (and let try 20 mins or so). believe time grey progress bar started showing underneath apple logo, know means trying diagnose problem hard drive.
not knowing @ time, , seeing no progress in progress bar, turned computer off again. after point when try boot got flashing question mark folder! scary.
able start applications dvd run apple hardware test, , found error right away when testing logic board, , stopped test.
have repair set apple send in them.
problem not backed (i have excuses, no 1 wants hear them, , they're complicated, legitimate, actually.)
know computer trying diagnose drive, concerned may have corrupted drive when turned off during progress bar start-up (although doubt ever have finished).
tried checking drive booting install dvd in order run disk utility, , after 15 minutes got screen can select language, wouldn't let me go past (maybe logic board prevents computer working booted dvd?).
got off of ten-hour work shift (ironically training work apple doing iphone tech support through 1 of vendors, not directly), conked out try more tonight.
however, dad has exact same macbook pro me, same model, , said willing let me put drive computer see if data off of way.
so, guess questions are: based on having turned off computer when did , symptoms, sound hard drive problem? , second, there reason it's not safe data (which still there) or dad's computer seat hard drive in computer? know example couldn't put in newer mac capable of running lion , has different drivers. these exact same model.
i'm sorry long. i've had stressful day, , believe me wasn't half of it. thank much!!!!
your dad's identical mbp should able boot drive if there's nothing wrong drive. if can't, that's sign drive corrupted somehow. bad hardware can lead corrupted drive easily.
