Growl Software Update Notice Appearing On My Imac

past 2 days, popup notification has been appearing on imac computer after start using safari browser, states "a newer version of growl available online. click here download now".

appreciate if tell me "growl" software is, have never heard of , i'm not sure if safe download it. thanks!

growl included app installed. rather install update pop-up in browser, go app's site , download update directly.
