Android and iPhone Own Nearly The Entire U.S. Smartphone Market

latest data nielsen suggests between 2 of them, android , apple's ios have relegated other smartphone operating systems sub-single digit market share. closest competitor -- rim's blackberry -- counted 5% of u.s. smartphone purchases in past 3 months. other operating systems, including windows phone, symbian, hp/palm's webos , others, added 4% share combined.

android's performance pretty constant, 48% of existing smartphone owners , 48% of new smartphone purchasers choosing android phones.

apple's iphone has been more popular of late, recent release of iphone 4s. iphone device of choice 32% of current smartphone owners, has made 43% of recent smartphone purchases -- entirely @ expense of blackberry , other small-share operating systems.
