Does the iPhone stay unlocked if I lose the Jailbreak?


i want jailbreak , unlock at&t iphone 4 , give family member lives overseas.

question - after put in local sim card, can keep iphone updated via itunes without losing unlock? when sync itunes going lose jailbreak, want know if lose carrier unlock or unlock operation 1 time deal?
 

depending on firmware , baseband version i4 might not able unlock. not iphones can unlocked.
, when update new firmware can kiss unlock goodbye, not forever, temporary , if dont know you're doing can lose unlock good.
best option if want give them unlocked iphone sells yours , purchase factory unlocked. never lock carrier , can used sim.
