iomega External Drive Failure

hi there,

have iomega external hard drive i've used on various macs on years. few weeks ago, plugged imac , got error (i don't recall, in hurry, didn't think of it, , got needed without using -- want though bumped off without me disconnecting , gave error possibly losing files because wasn't disconnected properly). anyway, plug in , try access files, nothing registers. makes lot of funny noises, flashes light forever, quiets down , sits there light on.

thoughts? swear i've had worst luck ever external drives. lose information every few years!

 

five years lifespan of consumer grade hdds. might want consider nas raid.
