my old desktop died few months ago , thinking of moving mba. quite drawn mba travel lot , work-issued laptop total pos , weighs 8 lbs.
hesitation use computer music workstation. i'm wondering if mba handle that.
old desktop -- 2004 pentium/single core @ 3.4 ghz, 4 gigs ram. being said, handled music needs adequately. typically have maybe 20 tracks or @ 96/24 bit. have effects running -- maybe 1 effect per track (20 total) , few master effects , eq. (note absolute limit old machine handle -- more effects or tracks , start hiccup or crash).
-- 2011 mba able handle 20 tracks @ 96/24 bit 20 30 effects running, or need pro? again, due travel prefer air, if can't handle sort of load i'll have think hard it.
the sandy bridge core i5 in base macbook air runs circle around 3.4ghz single core pentium 4. remember, can turbo boost 2.7 ghz single core running, , 2.4ghz both cores running. core i5 can process more in single clock cycle pentium 4.
put perspective, 1.7ghz i5 akin 3.5ghz core 2 duo, having dual-core pentium 4 system running @ on 4ghz.
also, ssd less of bottleneck hdd on desktop when writing tracks.
