currently own: late '11 15" mbp, 2 thunderbolt displays, , i7-2600k tower w/ 16gb of ram, 8tb of hdd space etc...
bought mbp & tb displays desktop replacement last dec., impressed w/ idea of tb technology , made adoption leap.... prior had been using tower desktop, since have been using server lot of handbraking, irssi, transmission, sabnzbd, itunes yadda... mbp more or less adequately fast enough needs in conjunction server, , adore displays, however, run pretty hard every day , sounds comparable hairdryer on full blast day... can't entirely didn't expect this, it's starting become grating , wish had proper desktop again... want tower, have these incompatible displays contend with...
ideas have crossed mind.... see if craigslist trade tb displays cinema displays, or sell them @ least $800 pop , eat loss , buy set of cinema displays... or wait indefinitely , see happens mac pro..
imac not option, want relatively quiet machine under load (like desktop), have no need 3rd monitor, , don't have time take desktop in service simple thing hdd failing s.m.a.r.t.
have other ideas (earplugs aside)? i've looked thunderbolt extension cables don't seem exist, or i'd put mbp in walk in closet , close door...
i guess question becomes whether want run os x or not on official hardware.
way things want out of os x mac buy mac pro. can take hackintosh route existing pc (provided has compatible hardware), if you're adventurous.
next mac pros presumably have thunderbolt (but no 1 knows sure), might option worth waiting if wanted hold on displays.
