The New iPad "Other: 17.6 GB" what's going on?

i synced ipad 3 (i know, it's easier say!) first time, , in itunes it's showing 17.6 gb of space occupied "other" ... know this? restore time?

screen shot attached. don't have lingering cause knowledge.
