Small OS X Problems

i have 2 questions...
1. reason, when boot mac, stack icons load, , don't. have deleted plist file, still happens. help?
2. disk space isn't showing right in finder. i'll have, say, 41.5 gb available, , of sudden, it'll go down 41.27. can fix this? thank you!

i'm running 10.5.8

 

1. happen in another, temporarily created, user account?

2. normal, temporary files created during using mac os x. if see hdd capacity varying between 230 mb , 1 gb, okay.
