Problem building a Qt browser on Mac Lion

i'm trying build qt-based browser on os x 10.7.3 using source code developer in git format.
have installed xcode 4.3.1 including command line tools.
have downloaded , installed qt 4.8.0 qt.mpkg.
build instructions no more run following 3 commands:

qmake
make
sudo make install

note same source code, these 3 commands work in ubuntu linux.

however, although qmake seems on mac, when try make command, output:

make: *** no targets specified , no makefile found. stop.

perhaps don't quite have correct qt tools.
can suggest might going wrong?

 

are executing make/qmake in correct directory? there makefile in directory?
