Do you hate the closed, app-centric document model?

recently lost data app due app-centric document model. app bought gf's account didn't sync , when upgraded ipad, lost saved data it, no warning messages.

incident highlights reason why frustrated app-centric document model apple has forced upon in ios. imho, saved documents should kept protected , separate sort of drm. app-centric document storage model applies same drm intended prevent apps being pirated *my* documents myself have created (and should have every right to).

never have lost data if ios used files , folders separate app itself.

there other frustrations have app-centric document model. musician , create audio files using various apps. times access music recording have created in 1 app, opening app without having copy clipboard or jump through weird hoops. or plug in ipad mac , see files right in finder, can copy music *that created myself* folder of choosing without having use itunes or icloud etc.

apple , yes-men-media-fanboys have given various reasons new app-centric document model. many of these reasons seem more justifications opposed legitimate, user-driven reasons.

initial reason given "security:" have way, because it's phone, , wouldn't want app accessing contacts , voicemail, you? nodded, "of course not apple, of course not apple." seemed logical, though there trying ask, "but.. but.. can not find way let access files finder without letting apps access each other's data? really?"

had wonder if real reason done not because of fact apple made deal record companies not allow direct access files on extremely portable device directly download files. hmmm.

because when ipod touch came out, though wasn't phone, still shared same app-centric document model no way access device's files finder. wait, though it's not phone, it's still going retain closed document model need security "because it's phone"? hold on.

ah, now, new reasons given: it's "easier" way. people "like more." yes indeed, "look @ wild success of iphone," must naturally mean app-centric document model "better."

no. iphone successful despite closed document model, not because of it. iphone's success due fact has superior hardware design , slick ui, , (at first) no competition.

iphone being successful not mean every feature of contributed success.

iphone's success not caused closed document model, hides documents within each app itself.

when ipad came out, still had app-centric, closed document model. why?! sucks apple!

look. here suggestion.

apple still have document model remain "app-centric," , not change fundamental user experience of ios, while changing underlying logistics of documents stored , how permissions handled, , opening access these documents via os x finder.

change ios each app, default, has own directory within standard document folder belongs user. keep things way app likes it, there read-only subdirectory within there handles coredata files crash app if moved around. other files ought able moved around wherever user wants store them; let app locate them via spotlight , document metadata.

user grant one-time read access other apps wanted access data folder other default app-specific directory (which in user's folder, not app's folder -- @ risk of repeating myself). example way, grant garage band read-access synthesizer's recorded aiff files, mix down results, , access whole shebang finder on mac.

allow apple make finder app ios. doesn't make orgasm thinking it? think of ridiculous overflow of annoying kludge-ware attempts replicate functionality of finder on ios. many of have such app yourself. mine called "usb disk" , hate it.

i'm sure there many of say, "but... app-centric document model...!" fine. under suggestion, continue function *exactly same.*

please sympathetic towards of content creators. musicians. artists. publishers. writers. managers. organizers. (i'm including spreadsheets, notes, calendars, etc. content.)

want total, complete, , unfettered access our own documents.

not using ios devices consume content created others.

understand drm , copy protection part of life, , ok these measures being there content files have purchased online. not ok drm , copy protection being applied documents ourselves have created.

cannot abide being forced access our own created works through drm-gateway itunes.

nor ok icloud being other default way access our own work, because icloud not owned us, , therefore have reduced privacy , no guarantees our content not censored or modified passes through icloud. (i read icloud user "agreement".)

cannot idly stand , remain complacent when our own intellectual property lost because created app spouse or child downloaded onto our device, , did not "sync" properly.

not want have resort kludgy methods of file transfer involve third-party cloud services (which seem carry scary user "agreements" icloud), ftp sites, expensive usb dongles, emailing things ourselves, or other draconian measures... longer.

kindly , humbly request apple please listen request , implement needed improvements in future ios version (sooner rather later please).

i'm tired of increasing, subtle feeling content myself have created on own device own software... not mine, in way... own works taken away me if don't play correct rules, or wrote offends wrong person.

excuse me while go installing mono , x11 on fresh lion install, can run iphone backup extractor decrypt own saved data.
