Address book won't sync to iPad

hope can me this. can't find on internet.

running lion on mac. wanted update contacts on ipad using itunes (only way it).
opened itunes, clicked on ipad>info>sync contacts>all contacts.
did sync. when went contacts on ipad, blank! erased everything!! tried couple of time same result.
else synced perfectly: music, movies, photos, etc.

work-around print address book pdf , ipad dropbox. means can't edit anything.

have feeling issue lion or new version of itunes because never happened snow leopard.

i'm having same problems.. contact notes set in ipad contact , after sync in itunes data created in ipad gone on ipad. android keeps mark sync mbp , calendar syncs .. contacts never. ipad had better ability contacts in os x lose .... love mbp , ipad2 nothing in apple palm desktop did contacts. guess if beyond name , contact info out of luck syncing ... hope have better luck. have keep separate notebook app missing contact info on mbp , ipad can keep on android. may not go iphone after all.
