iMessage question

i have question imessage searched , unsuccessful. have been using imessage since came out on iphone , have had no issues. got ipad , have chats synced, know requires imessaging using email address , not phone number on iphone.

question , stupid one. if imessage email address, , imessage whatever reason, unavailable, still receive message sms on iphone? know works me, people messaging phone number , not email address @ moment. before start telling people message email address, want make sure i'll still message sms iphone if imessage not working.

sending texts via imessage or sms selection process automatically done idevice's messaging app. checks see if idevice on other end email address or phone number entered in "to" line. so, if sends text, arrive @ iphone (or ipad) depending on what's available.

iphone, make sure imessages consistently, need have send , receipt options available. in settings > messages > "receive at" ...have phone number primary "receive at." but also have email(-s) listed. imessaging use whichever available on idevice-to-idevice text.

so, answer question, giving out phone number text-message contact best bet. way, won't have worry if other person using idevice. (ps - no such thing stupid question!) if know other person using ipad imessage, email address appropriate.

idevices use imessage. other devices text via regular sms phone number (and these won't sync ipad, limited email).

btw- also, should have send sms "on" mms messaging , group messaging in imessage settings.
