Windows 7 Accessing Simple Share Suddenly Denied Access?

anyone encountered this?

lion server 10.7.3 fresh out of box.

couple of local user accounts match login / pass of small network of win 7 pro systems.

accessing shared folder on new server fine.... until enabled open directory (no network accounts created)... access denied , "specified server cannot perform requested operation" on windows 7 workstations.

what?

solutions guys?

monday morning: went in , disabled open directory (turned stand alone server local accounts only).

smb access windows 7 systems instantly restored.
