Using an iPad when WiFi isn't available..?

kind of random, curious question guys. i'm going purchasing first ipad, 2, when goes on sale. wifi version.

i'm anticipating many situations when i'm @ work or @ hospital ( family issues lately ) wifi won't found here @ home or @ coffee shop or fast food place.

can't imagine using iphone without wifi & 3g, of apps use , things require internet. reading news, using facebook, twitter, etc.

so.. when don't have internet connection readily available.. types of things on ipad? other games, if don't mind.

i'm trying prep myself apps , whatnot keep me occupied in examples listed above! , way, when work, mean when i'm on break.
