Optical drive benchmark??

hi all, after frustrating experiences old (slow) cd-dvd drive in mdd, asked myself if there kind of optical drive benchmark app mac os. i'd see transfer speed can drive, , compare results if hands on better drive.

also, wonder... if plug cd-dvd on ata-66 or ata-100 instead of slow poke ata bus made optical drive? work? there optical drive spin fast enough saturate eide/ata-2 (16 mb/sec) optical drive bus?

i did dvr-109, , later dvr-115, in g4 digital audio (using ata-66 port).
worked , allowed full 20x burn speed. there small catch. couldn't start optical disks holding "c" key, using option key.
