TV through Mini Display - HMDI

i got done installing windows on macbook pro 15' 2011 , having problems external display. have connected sony bravia through mini display hdmi adapter , have resolution in display options turned 1920 x 1080. however, there black bars on sides , top , bottum of screen. i've checked tv's settings , none of them change this. appreciated.
