Lion keeps going back to old settings after restart

i bought macbook pro friend lion. everytime change user name , password , restart, goes username , have put in password instead of new one. new 1 made disappears!? in fact, change disappears , goes before.
tried reinstalling lion loaded same old users.
help!

you make new account , delete old one. strange problem have though.
