Problem taking sceenshots.

so have macbook pro , have os x lion , have recent updates. can't seem take screenshots, when hit either ctrl, command, shift , 4 or 3 makes sound doesn't save picture. suggestions fix this?

if makes sound, it's taking pic. may not know it's putting them, however. have looked in desktop, downloads , document folders? also, can use finder search image files created in past day, should find them, wherever are.

change default folder screencap images, type following in terminal.app:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture location /users/username/desktop/ (or whatever path prefer)
killall systemuiserver​

or can install secrets preference pane select default screencap folder.
