Problem connecting Macbook Air to projector

have macbook air mid 2011, microdvi-vga adaptor , i'm having real troubles connecting epson projector.
when connection made, mba gets sluggish. looks tries recognize projector because screen resolution changes. try open systen preferences or shut down takes forever.
first thought crashed, realized really slow. click took minute react.
managed turn mba off (projector on , still connected), turned mba on still connected, , projector , mba recognized each other.
later on, had disconnect projector (i did without turning of them off) , changed mbp. connection worked immediately.
when went mba-epson, connection failed again. screen blue , mba slower turtle. no responsiveness.
had force shut down because notthing working.
after trynig several flows (projector off mba on. both on. unplug , plug back, etc) gave up. didn't work
mbp, worked fine.
not first time have problem connecting mba projector. works, doesn't.
have idea might be?

is there software projector might able install on mac make cooperate (like drivers)? check epson's website.
