Full disk encryptuion

since aware filevault2 has been cracked (in mere matter of minutes), best way secure entirety of mac os operating system. truecrypt manual says supports full disk system encryption variety of winblows devices, not mac.

there secure alternatives can recommend?

heard long computer isn't in "sleep" mode, fv2 still hold it's integrity. true?

Resolved Debugging is giving odd results

hey, have problem , can not explain why not displaying correct results. hoping preference setting accidentally hit causing display wrong information or other information. included photo showing results.

declared int , tried initialize value of 20. in photo can see step through code in initialize it. nslog result correct. in area, lower left, should see results of variable values expecting see tagidnum = 20. instead says equal 1?

can shed light on me?

resolved: friend stopped tonight , looked on together. switched debugger lldb gdb , gives correct results values in debugging window.

Win 7 on Mac 23" Once Upon A Time

wow. tried fix minor problems win win 8 drivers deleting partition in bootcamp , re-install equal portion osx/win 50/50. has worked twice (installing windows7 32 bit disk). time cannot black screen , cursor flickering in upper left. apparently doesn't recognize disc.

never part asks install windows. after partitioning stalls. have no clue windows commands on mac keyboard way eject kill machine , reboot in mac.

Using Verizon LTE iPad with AT&T 3G

Can't Add GMail Account

hi, deleted gmail account since acting quite bit (for example, in system preferences couldn't tick or untick -it blank- , couldn't add or delete accounts). deleted mail, ical, etc individually, tried add account back, got issue in video attached, deleted .plists (basically matched search ical, address book, mail or sync in ~/library/preferences), rebooted , still same.

p.s.: tried couple times , i'm sure wrote email , password correctly, tried changing name.

Let Me Share w/ You My Thought Process in Deciding iPad Cases/Protection

i've been closely following , intently reading , reviewing every single post in other thread here in ipad accessories forum; titled "search best new ipad hd case begins." had hoped replies focus me on case stands out in honesty has led me create thread, regarding case/protection need/want/require.

1. let's begin incipio lexington (http://www.myincipio.com/new-ipad-cases/incipio-new-ipad-lexington-hard-shell-folio-case.asp). amazement in other thread, case extremely popular. love sleekness , color, though admittedly used own incase magazine jacket (http://goincase.com/products/detail/magazine-jacket-cl57925) , realizing may want hold ipad naked eek on.

2. stm skinny (http://www.radtech.us/products/stm-skinny-ipad-case-with-stand.aspx) different incipio in terms of material, though both provide similar angles. college student, sell 1 @ our college student store , have admit i'm not fan of material. it's still option in mind seeing did used walk around time 1 of these type of cases original ipad 1. i'm upgrading new ipad feel taking advantage of holding thinner device, in turn leads me think naked route.
ipad 1 found myself taking off incase magazine jacket , using nakedly, though use typing , movie watching angles quite bit case on.

3. macally (http://www.macally.com/en/product/articleshow.asp?articleid=425), case offers detachable smart cover, though smart cover seems come macally , not apple. think appeal here of ipad protected , offers protection against falls , bumps , included macally smart cover angles use , accustomed to.

4. incase, snap case (http://goincase.com/products/detail/snap-case-cl57963/1) offers protection , falls , bumps like. have similar incase case iphone 4 , though works smart cover, not sure if want case add bulk. obvious give , take here , (some) fall protection.

5. incase maki sleeve (http://goincase.com/products/detail/maki-sleeve-cl57994/1) has unique , beautiful design. love thought of being able put ipad on , walk other side of campus class , still have typing , movie watching angles can provide. love closes via magnets. says works smart cover case provides though viewing angles. when walking about, case provide protection, though none when ipad out of case , in hands. i'm sure pair incase snap case (#4) or reason following (#6) caught eye...

6. icarbons (http://www.icarbons.com/collections/new-ipad-3rd-gen/products/new-ipad-brushed-aluminum), can't think looks great , though provide protection in sense of preventing scratches on of ipad, provides no protection if device falls. nevertheless couldn't pairing #5 & #6 together... or #5 & #4.

in conclusion, should mention i'm not business man in elevators , business meetings. i'm college student goes , class ipad. aside, have ipad me on dorm room floor , in lounges people studying , hanging out. furthermore, take ipad out of university bubble on weekends when go home, go shopping @ mall or driving around in car on date. aside accessories i've listed above, have stm scout shoulder bag in olive (http://www.stmbags.com/catalog/ipad-bags/scout-for-ipad-shoulder-bag/) gets used on longer car trips or when it's gonna longer day or don't wanna walk down dark alley ipad in hand.

AirPlay via iTunes skipping when streaming to multiple AirPort Express's

i'm not sure if right forum this, know guys helpful , know answer.

i'm using itunes on 2011 macbook pro stream music. have 1 airport express 'n' in living room connected home theater, , 1 apx 'b/g' in bedroom connected pair of speakers on desk. when streaming music either 1 room or other have no problems. however, when streaming music both @ once occassionally experience audible skipping, or sound dropping out entirely several seconds @ time. intermittent, , doesn't seem correlate increased network traffic. in fact, there's no other network traffic @ when happens.

caused mixing b/g , n routers? upgrading older apx 'n' fix streaming problems? there quick fixes can increase network bandwith or otherwise improve network performance , fix issue?

appletv have 802.11n , possible use 1 instead of apx same functionality? (see, tied atv/ht forum there.)

i don't have answer, have similar problem may shed light.

have 2 ap expresses set airplay, , 1 of them has skipping problem describe. 1 skips 1 have set wireless base station, 1 doesn't skip used solely airplay. suspicion it's dual use wireless base station , airplay device causes choke.

incidentally, 1 has problems n router. 1 not have problems older b/g model.

MacBook has no serial number?

today in apple store , found out macbook has no serial number. bought 100 euro's , installed ssd (vertex 3) , new black topcase. wanted go black bezel @ apple store. makes black (on inside) white macbook. pretty awesome looking.

little fun project.

anyway, see picture mean. did not know either.

have 4s , it's jail broken. had handset replaced & before had loads of different tweeks on it...battery wasn't great.
now, have put on killbackground - that's such tweek apple should put in.

haven't put else on yet..apart few safety packages etc.

jailbrake alone drain battery faster? mods & tweeks cause battery drain?

cannot restore partition size in OSX

i removed partition going use install windows 8 consumer preview. didnt work, removed partition, leaving windows 7 , osx lion partitions. why can't resize osx partition before? why can't option+boot old windows 7 partition anymore either?

Looking for clarification on Dual Core?

i considering buying desktop computer family. wife , have had , still have laptops. when shopping understanding specs of computer don't think understanding dual core concept on power mac's, can please explain me. buy used power mac family desktop computer. use pictures, video games, homework internet activities , central unit our home network. have been looking @ dual 2ghz systems. guess question dual 2ghz power mac big upgrade 2.66ghz macbook pro's?

dual core means there 2 cpu cores. mac pros dual core , powermac g4 , g5's dual core. there quad core mac pros , powermac g5s , 8 core mac pros. mac pros have @ least 2 core , there powermac g5's have 1 core.

going mac pro powermac g5 going downgrade unless have last generation powermac g5 , upgraded.

after getting new solid state hard drive , getting things set up. didn't realize had have either iphoto or aperture use photostream. trying away without having install ilife (iphoto) because i've not had experience it.

Challenge! Whats wrong..?

hi bros. bought iphone 4 got replaced warranty of previous owner. it's totally new, never been used etc. in order activate phone, needed sim specific carrier, , got dude in store me. since i've heard phone supposed locked same carrier (which don't have), first thing did when got home after activating jailbreak , install cydia. later found out since have doomed bb 4.11.08, jailbreak wouldn't good.

here's weird part. later bought sim card same carrier previous owner said locked to, , used activate it, guess what, no signal. weirder thing phone accepts sim cards 2 different carriers without stating these sims aren't accepted. mean isn't locked anymore? , why don't signal of 2 carriers?

@ 1 moment wondering if phone might have been stolen, , therefore imei blacklisted, dude told me try site:

my gf's iphone 4 freezing on past weekend , asked me if can restore her. did so, , afterwards showed on itunes ed's iphone (which mine), listed cell number made no sense. changed name hers again , synced iphone , after sync showed correct cell number , seemed fine, tonight went sync iphone 4s , when clicked on apps showed many more apps checked on (as if on iphone) weren't.

gonna post in apple forums too, wanted know if else experienced , fix it?

i think it's "authorize/deauthorize computer" issue.

since synced iphone on computer, need plug in iphone computer once more , "deauthorize computer" in itunes.

Custom Machine vs Mac Mini/Second Hand Mac Pro

following announcement of mountain lion today, realise won't able continue current macbook longer if want new os, has intel gma x3100 chip.

i've decided want desktop end doing lot of video editing , processing, need packs punch, , i'll want play few games well, has reasonably high end. here options i've come far:

1) custom built machine: seems far best one. don't have huge amounts of money spend , know can kickass machine latest processor, memory, ssd , graphics within budget (about $800). i've never built computer before, there great video guides around reckon manage it. install mountain lion on it, have question regarding this. if clone current hd onto ssd, , put custom machine, work normal? when time comes, able upgrade mountain lion through mac app store or require complex hackintosh type manoeuvre? if so, might opt 1 of next 2 options, though have custom pc tempting option, might want install windows 8 on separate hd when time comes looks pretty impressive new ui.

2)mac mini: new ones have pretty impressive specs, still know have compromise in regard compared custom machine or second hand mac pro. other problem getting stuff on current hd on mini i'm pretty sure apple have problem covered when set up. it's while since i've set mac can't quite remember happens regarding transferring files, applications , content.

3) second hand mac pro: i've checked on ebay , cheapest ones sell within budget, , deliver best performance. what's more can upgrade it, useful , can't mini. , it's made apple wouldn't have potential complications regarding installing mountain lion.

i'm off uni next year, , won't buy until summer, still want hear guys have say.

any sandy bridge (onwards) core i7 ssd , 16gb of ram.

save money you'd spend on 3d card, , buy console gaming?

suspect current sandy bridge/coming ivy bridge 16gb ram , ssd blow secondhand mac pro out of water performance wise doing, equivalent price.

transferring data simple: if use time machine, point new mac @ old time machine backup when running through startup wizard , bring on (apps, data, lot).

why macbook design air vent on hinge of screen? wouldn't prevent air flow instead of promoting it? notice apple on lot of there computers , wondering why?

i have encountered exhaust problems. main issue bezel adhesive tends fail in area hit exhaust. barely had repair authorized on macbook. have seen plenty of ibooks loose bezels in same area well.

freeing space on Mac OS X start up disk and apps not executing

i've 12' ibookg4 , been using 6 years. it's running on 1.33mhz processor(power pc), 512 ram, mac os x ver10.3. has never crashed nor given me problems been lagging whenever use adobe illustrator , photoshop simultaneously. lots of photography , graphic designing stuff , have huge files never crashed apps.
had upgraded ram 726mb, that's when problems started. not save photoshop files. plus had deleted of excess files on pc-pics,.dmg,mp3s. had prompt clear start disk memory enable apps function(i using firefox , wireless device only). resulted firefox crash.

did clean in library , next thing know when restarted pc. settings had been change default when first got it. still files intact.

did download whatsize , appzapper it's unable execute after installation. please help!

need know how make space start disk , make apps work properly.

when remove apps, need make sure remove 'package contents' right-clicking.

if have disks came mac, may worth rebuilding it, should notice little speed files first though

of ram show in system profiler?

have not installed windows onto mac pro yet... want in order rid of older ibm server have been using windows.

unless can retrieve drivers through other means, xp not supported on newer macs lion (is not support through bootcamp installer). have no issues 7 matter of finesse , correct setup , run fine , without issues. prefer 7 xp added features , compatibility newer hardware , software, while still maintaining backward compatibility older stuff.

HFS drive recognised in MacDrive but not on Mac Mini

i've been using 1tb buffalo drive mac year without issue. use macdrive files on separate windows pc. of sudden can't mac see drive, either in finder or disk utility. on windows it's fine. i've scoured web no avail, have idea may causing this?

after accessing drive windows, did eject it? make sure, reconnect windows, safely remove drive before unplug it.

is possible disable raw file system access via usb on jailbroken iphone 4s running ios 5.0.1? don't have super secret on device nice know if ever lost it little harder plugging old computer , loading ifunbox grab address book (/var/mobile/library/addressbook/addressbook.sqlitedb), emails (/var/mobile/library/mail), sms (/var/mobile/library/sms/sms.db), etc.

have openssh installed root , mobile passwords changed default ifunbox on windows 7 still has full read/write access entire file system when device plugged in via usb. openssh disabled has full access.

if have passcode enabled, iphone not allow unauthorized computer access contents until authorize computer entering passcode iphone. works disallow access camera roll.

"Accessory not supported by iPhone?"

so yesterday had trouble iphone 4. volume went away. flipped mute , , still didnt work until plugged headphones in , problem went away.

right after realized wanted plug in iphone on philips dock speakers use everyday , message pops saying "accessory not supported iphone", except, been using everyday last 2 years.

ive reeboted , nothign seems work. has happened them?

yeah i'll every , accessories. if turn screen off top on/off button , plug in, works. weird...

is there hack can prevent upgrade of appstore app?

"upgrade all", have app preserve in specific version, , nuisance having upgrade other 1 @ time. if there jb tweak specify apps hide upgrade, nice. or way manually, e.g. copying app place.

way, can manually downgrade app later, if e.g. save copy of directory in, , later copy back. or cause trouble?

update hider. can select each app don't want update , update might show few seconds when go app store it'll disappear , can press update all.

Thunderbolt question.

ok here scenario... have 21.5" 2011 imac.
i'm wanting dual-monitor setup. found led monitor deal.

question is, can hook via hdmi mini display port hdmi adaptor? or must have thunderbolt hdmi? know thunderbolt backwards compatible i'm unsure how works video.

if mini display adaptor work, picture fine? 1080p monitor. help!

for display thunderbolt port mini display port. (with 1 exception, apple thunderbolt display works on thunderbolt port. that's because of other features built display)

normal display can use mini display port adapter like. suggest hdmi or dvi adapter.

iMac G5 20" SSD?

hi,

have old imac 2ghz g5 20" 1.5gb ram (from 2005) in kitchen. it's last model before went isight camera. has new 2tb wd caviar black hd (one of best available). runs osx 10.4.11 tiger , used safari browsing , spotify via airfoil/airport express.

now, thought fun, since these easy-to-upgrade ones put small 60gb ssd in ( not care space).

know it's not wise (financially) not care, since it's fun. local stores here sell vertex 2/3 or agility drives. know these total overkill, sell around 60-80 euro's.

see speed increase? machine runs flawlessly , not slow. have thing best out of everything, older machines.

i'd hear opinions if make difference (i have ssd's in machines varying 2006-2011). don't care price , stuff that, don't start that.

i've had lot of macs (before mba w/ 27 tb , had 27 imac 16gb ram/ssd bla bla) in last years ( switch lot).

want feedback, that's all.

so, took plunge , purchased ocz agility 3 60gb ssd. formatted mac os journaled witht powerpc apple partition (not guid). drive not getting recognized system unfortunately using tiger install disks..

posted on apple forum received no replies. have may 2011 imac (the first build thunderbolt) , month after received got recall apple possibility of hard drive failure in future. had year exchange internal drive @ apple's expense.

have not done yet, thinking i'd "sweat out" , year soon. wondering if there others received recall , declined replace drive, experience hard drive failure failure. know there others drives failed might make more inclined replace drive.

why wait? being recalled reason. advantage there 'sweating out year'?

Should I restore because of this?

hi all,

jailbroke iphone 4 ios 5.0.1 2 weeks ago. first time jailbreaking anything. issue is:

find can't update apps (there's red alert on icon , it's annoying can't update future apps i've downloaded because 1 of apps need updating ios 5.1) if can't update 1 app, means can't update other apps..right? because there 1 option "update all". --this biggest problem me.

second issue is:

phone slower.

reason jailbreak have infinity folders , no apps wallpaper on home screen. added notification center --and that's it. not sure if it's worth keep jail break.

solutions?

mines fine love jailbreak can decide if don't.
