so, first post here after spending decent time lurking , im hoping light shed on issue ive been having 1.1 mac pro. machine specs...1tb hd os 10.6.8 on it, 8gb of ram transintl, ati x1900 gpu, x5355 cpu's. having issue pro locking on me during normal use, surfing wed in safari , listening itunes, screen lock up...but itunes still play in background or youtube video etc. power down, reboot, everyhting fire up.
friend thought may ram related, when first started happening had measly 2gb of apple supplied ram machine came on 2006. 8gb put it. problem happened less, still happened. thats when x5355's went it, wanted render video faster anyway @ time , new machine wasnt in cards cpu's upgrade logical step. machine no longer locked doing random everyday tasks, froze if jumping , forth fcp x , motion 5. cranked fans in smc fan control, , had no more issues far.
other day issue came about, downloading file walked away , came 20 minutes later , screen frozen, cursor still moved around screen frozen. file said on screen downloaded 1.2gb of 4.3gb file, rebooted computer...started download client again...and instantly said downloaded 3.4gb of 4.3gb file. makes me think computer still working, after screen hasa frozen , become un useable. failing gpu blame? im out of ideas, , looking excuse upgrade ati 5770 fcp x anyway, want fix issue @ hand before dumping more "play" money machine.
