Advice on upcoming purchase

hey guys, first post here. been looking around forums month , decided make account , advice.

alright, looking buy first mac, or in latest thought, macs. dead set on buying late 2011 15" macbook pro , upgrading ram myself 8gb upgrading standard hdd 256gb ssd. it's still possibility, thinking going different route.

rather spending $1700 15" macbook pro, +$325 256gb crucial m4 ssd, , $40 8gb of ram, debating on whether want purchase both base model 2011 21.5" imac along base model 13" macbook pro same price.

wanted 15" macbook pro because need. perfect size screen, powerful quad core processor, discrete on intel hd 3000 graphics, , fact speakers on outside rather underneath keyboard.

realized same price(relativley speaking) can both imac , 13" macbook pro , stuck option take here. imac , macbook pro combo, best of both worlds.

4th year college student , primary uses follows:

-heavy web browsing/research, watching videos, etc.
-writing papers, creating spreadsheets, etc
-syncing iphone , ipad itunes, ble keep both libraries identical.

that's it. of programs need circuit simulation can use computers in labs @ school, won't need on mac, although pick icircit fun. might photo , video editing once nothing hardcore, fun.

regardless, have laptop now, , fine staying way, i'm looking opinions on guys think/what do. go super fast 15" macbook pro, or imac , 13" mbp?

in advance advice/help on issue.

how nice 15" , used 24" cinema display can connect laptop to? (the recent cinema displays have power/usb/display port on single cable laptop).

can go 27" acd route, that's bit more expensive , out of budget, since you're student.

having 2 computers good, have keep both of them in sync itunes libraries etc...it's not hard, still work. 21" pretty small, imo, desktop. 24" nice since can watch other things on well.
