i'm trying use airplay , have appletv , iphone 4s. way home network set have main wi-fi network connected cable modem , using airport base station extreme. have additional home network in part of house aebs not work well. network running on cisco/linksys e3000.
problem if connect both apple tv , iphone main network using aebs airplay works fine. if connect both devices other wi-fi network doesn't work. had idea long both devices on same wi-fi network should work fine puzzles me. since linksys e3000 network stronger in part of house prefer use wi-fi network on appletv , iphone.
airplay require aebs? had idea should work on router.
there have change in settings e3000 have work airplay?
help.
any wifi router should work airplay.
have (rebadged) linksys of kind driving house wifi. half of devices wired, half wireless. set-up decently far hassle free spec, , have no trouble airplay, including using airplay drive whole house audio through bunch of (wired) airport expresses.
unless have weird firewall config on cisco, guess either:
1) router has 2 wifi networks, main , guest, , iphone , atv not connecting same networks, though seems are.
2) you've misconfigured subnet mask ip range. can break bonjour believe airplay relies on find local devices.
recommend checking ip addresses being dhcp assigned both devices cisco box. should in same subnet. ips typically 192.168.x.nnn. 'nnn' different across devices, 'x' should identical. subnet masks (assuming 192.168.n.x ips) should 255.255.255.0
