'08 Macbook Can't Detect Apple Headphones' Microphone

good evening ladies , gentle,

have noticed quite interesting problem/phenomena. when facetime girlfriend use headphones because it's easier. noticed macbook still uses "internal microphone" , not 1 on apple headphones w/ remote+mic. have looked under sound settings , them connected not detect "external microphone." macbook old can't use microphone on apple headset apple laptop? or advice appreciated , thank in advance it.

you cannot use iphone headphones/microphone os x. best of knowledge, headphones iphone designed work ios. learned trying use microphone on them 2010 imac , no matter tried, os x wouldn't recognize it.

headphone jack on mac's strictly output , not dual-purposed on iphone.

haven't tried plugging headphones microphone jack of imac, try , see if recognizes microphone way, audio come out outboard speakers of mbp.

suppose workaround - if mic port recognizes iphone headphones mic - 2 headsets, iphone earbuds plugged mic port , set of earbuds plugged headphone port talk on 1 set , hear on other set.
