No keyboard on startup?

hello
purchased mac mini core duo 1.83ghz use mediaplayer in living room.
noticed wasn't able use keys during startup, trying reset pram. later on, when replaced standard 80gb harddrive bigger 1 , trying use "c" during startup, found out t can't use key during startup. learned firmware-password blocks keys during startup, except alt-option-f-o enter open firmware, can't enter open firmware during startup. mini doesn't respond key try use on startup. once booted, keyboard , mouse work both fine in snow leopard.
can wrong mini?

nothing. firmware-password protect machine unauthorized changes configuration, , does, you've found out.

assuming have administrator-account, can modify or remove password after booting machine.

open terminal, , type:

code:
sudo nvram -p
that prints list of variables stored in nvram, , should include line with

code:
security-password %70%61%73%73%77%6f%72%64
with ascii-table can decode (and your) password, way.

removing password:

code:
sudo nvram -d security-mode sudo nvram -d security-password
when rebooting should able influence boot-process or access openfirmware.
