have owned referb 1tb wd mybook studio for..(i'm amazed this..) 5 years , it's still running strong. however, it's getting full , have business, need more serious storage.
i'm wedding photographer main use storing/working large raw files , big amounts of data. video once in while, i'll editing off 1 of them possibly. (a separate drive video)
i'm on fence: i've been extremely pleased wd consider going them again, however, seem 1 who's lucked out having drive last long. else seems have them fail often. live 10 miles down road owc, , know company , lot of people seem happy drives.
so: in opinion; better option: owc, or wd?.. (or drobo?)
need:
- fw800
- must fast
- good quality , going last
side note; have backblaze, backed cloud. obviously, still want fast, reliable, , going last me long possible.
side note: i've considered drobo, not sold on it. had friend who's drobo crashed , lost work. hoping gain thunderbolt, thunderbolt expensive it's not worth looking at. i'm open though.

another photographer here: buy owc enclosures. buy empty enclosure , install own drive. depends on brand of drive owc using when in market...

can count on owc being bootable. having purchased enclosures not boot macs i'm done taking chance on other enclosures.
