Can you use the Apple Remote to control iPhone's iPod

i shuffle music while i'm in shower skip 80% of songs. being in shower, can't skip everytime don't want hear song.

don't want workaround deleting songs, want know if apple remote can control iphone's music. i'd attach shower wall , seal in waterproof, transparent concealment skip music.
